so during dinner today… my kids introduced me to a term that stems from them coming into our room without knocking.  as we do not have a door to the bathroom from the master… there is a clear shot into the shower.

i am not responsible for any mental pictures that come after this

well… i had just taken a shower with my infant son… and handed him off to my wife.. and was going to finish my shower… well i guess they saw me with all my buck nakid ness in the shower and initially thought i was wearing a ‘man thong’ … until the anatomy lesson we had given them the year before kicked in and realized that i was not wearing a man thong. mental picture clear enough for you?

so that is the quote of the day… that is not a man thong

we have implimented the knock before entering rule for anything in the house now

because of the recent earthquakes and the high number of chidren killed in collapsed schools and buildings (estimated at about 10,000), china has decided to allow couples to bypass the widely enforced one child rule.

i have an idea…. instead of trying to replace a lost child with a newborn… how about adopting some of your own chinese babies and kids in orphanages…

you have lost a love one, he kids need a love one and have suffered their whole lives… why not match couples with kids need the age of their lost child…

i know as a parent, it would be hard to pass up on being able to have a biological child, but it is odd that in a country that onyl allows one child per family, that orphanages are full….

take care of each other and find a way to meet each others needs

o.. as the american idol came up on the dvr the contestants were all standing in a row and there were choir folk around them on each side.. and then the music started… and out came the words jesus, lord, worship … they weer singing ‘shout to the lord’ by hillsong

the wife, kids and i were all kind of slack jaw’d and trying to figure out why they were doing a worship song for the only group song that they did during an elimination show…  it just seemed odd and not sure what prompted the whole thing…

artistically, they did a great job with the song though..

maybe it was a way to bring a sense of needing God during their pleas for charity…

maybe the reason we all have that need to give and share in the suffering of others is because we have a loving God that sacrificed for us… there is no evolutionary need for compassion.  there is no darwinian natural selection process that cares about the weak and diseased … that hurt and sorrow that goes to the pit of your stomach and breaks your heart when you see a baby dying of malaria or orphaned by parents dead of aids … that comes from God… and we need to shout to the Lord sometimes with out praise.. but also with out plea for help

idol gives back .. kind of ironic .. that the thing that we sometimes idolize in place of God points us back to Him.  the idols in our lives give back control to Him.

the source may be odd.. but the cause is good.  the cause of the kids with no parents was probably irresponsibilty and promescuity of the parents.. but that should not keep us from caring for the damaged lives left behind.  we see the ‘stars’ that have shoes that cost more than most of the people make in a year in africa… but we see them being hit in the gut with what real need is… and maybe… just maybe… using their celebrity for good.  putting some of their materialism aside and being selfless in the work that needs to be done to help

give what you can …

with my huge weight gain… i grew some man boobs… and after a shower with my son… i did something that ended up being on a family guy movie that came with my kids sony psp

i just lack the hair…

it is wednesday.. and i am still laughing at an snl skit… snl was actually good for a change this past week with peyton manning…

here is the skit that cracked me up… the other side of united way athletes..

oh nooooozzzz…..

my kids are growing up too quick.  my just turned 9 daughter finally asked about where babies really come from… and we had the in depth talk with her…

nice that there were instructional videos on youtube and other videos that we were able to show a fetus developing in the womb.. and moment of fertilization and such..

i think it is time to go buy that gun… the one that i will be cleaning in plain sight when my daughter brings her first boyfriend over for a visit…  and putting the fear of hidden cameras and gps on anything they do..

i drove home today to find that i was tailing a police car into my neighborhood… i was going slow just to keep my space from him.. but on my round about.. the cop slowed and was parking across the street… i thought it was weird.. and got the car into the garage…  i got out of the car to see the cop car making a u-turn and parking right in front of my driveway…  i am freaked out at this point.. as the officer is walking up my driveway toward me

he asks if i know about the burglary call from my house… now i am really freaked out as my son was home but he was not answering when i called his name…

i did a quick run thru in the house and the tv was on.. but nobody was there… and my son was not answering…

i went back out to the officer and verified that the call had come from our house… and he did… so i am really worried now.

the officer says that the call came from the house and there was something stolen and the person that had called knew who took it… like electronics or something… so i am thinking that a neighbor kid had taken a gameboy or something…

as i round the side of the house.. my son is coming with his skateboard and a pepsi (he must have been coming from his uncles house… who lives a few blocks away) … so i am relieved and then the questions start….

who, what, why….

well.. my son had gone upstairs and seen papers on the floor in my room and thought that it looked like someone had ransacked the room…

he called the cops and got out of the house and went over to my brothers…

so.. he basically did almost everything right..

the issue was that he had been watching the tlc show called ‘it takes a thief’ recently… and was watching the show alone and got spooked…. he thought the papers on the floor looks way out of place in my room.. but did not realize that i had been working the night before and had not picked up like normal

as the officer was a dad of one of my sons friend… he was understanding about the false alarm… but that was not how i wanted to come home today…

i don’t think that he will be watching that show anymore… i am gonna block it on tivo or something

you may be wondering… what kind of korean name is anaïs … well it ain’t… and not after the french writer anaïs nin… it is hebrew for blessed… so said the baby name thing we looked at. also.. it is a anagram for asian…

today is my daughters 9th birthday…. and it is making me feel old. they grow p so fast don’t they?

she kicks off a batch of birtdays in the family… my neice, my sister, my brother, myself, a nephew coming on scheduled date, all have even number birthdays going out to the 14th… and my brother in law is wedged in the middle there somplace and my son ends march near the end… march is a very busy month for us… or should i say. march minus 9 months was a very busy month for the family…. actually.. lets not talk about that… i did not thow up in my mouth competely… but i taste it just a bit… icknay on the exessay talking when it comes to my own parents.

anyway….. as a princess… she wants all the girlie fru-fru stuff, a horse, rings, necklaces, dolls.. but she is a deep thinker. asks those questions that make you turn around and do a double take…

well.. her grandma has a special lunch set for her.. and we have a birthday dinner later tonight…

here are some things that happened on mar 4th:

1861: abraham lincoln become 16th president
1924: the song ‘happy birthday to you’ is published (how appropriate)
1950: disney releases the movie ‘cinderella’ (again how appropriate)
1952: ronald reagan marries nancy davis
1966: john kennon makes the ‘beatles are more popular than jesus’ comment
1998: first major hack of windows nt machines
2007: first of 2 lunar eclipses just happened

my kids are taking swimming classes and as part of that… they had to go get new suits

my fashion princess daughter was up and as they browsed the selection… they happened up on some 2 piece suits that were probably… no definatley not age appropriate

In one of those classic kid moments… my daughter turns to my wife and says ‘i don’t think dad would like these too much’

she ended up getting a nice 1 piece suit

i guess raising a proverbs 23rd type daughter is gonna be harder than it looks… at least she realized that i would be not so pleased with her wearing un-modest swimming suits and just clothes in general… i guess i did a decent job of putting the puritan fear into her head… either that or my scowl when she looks at things like that was a pavlovian bell that went off in her head

i look at all of the girl toys and stuff that flood the minds of these little girls and it is worse than the soft core pr0n of the 80s… bratz dolls and barbies are even more objectifiers of women… and that is the climate that i have to worry about… not the climate change al gore is spewing…

this is probably the most disturbing yet intriguing video i have seen in a long time…

it is called ‘little supoerstar’ and i first saw it on the daily show/cobert report shows… where they were talking about the 6 yr old boy being exploited by his father as a dancing midget… and the rest of the indian family (dot not feathers) lounging and watching

well.. here is it.. i watch it over and over… and have used it to get a kick the last few months

our newly elected democratic state congress has started imposing their will on the people

there is a bill in colorado that is seeking to require all 6th grade girls to be immunized for hpv before they will be allowed to register .. as 4 strains of hpv seem to lead to cervical cancer….

the issue here is that.. unlike something that can be passed like chicken pox or measles.. hpv is an std.

trying to prevent cervical cancer is great… but again.. this is a preventable disease… if it goes down the hpv route.

we need to play that little thing called the logic game..

most if not all hpv leads to cervical cancer, but not all cervical cancer is caused by hpv.

how about displasia and genetics…

if they want to start giving 11 year old girls shots to keep them from getting an std… hmm … by all means give them the choice to be a ho. wait.. skank.

with all the sex ed that has been going on.. and all the free condoms and all of that… you would think that stds would be on the decline.. but hmm… they are not.

maybe the information that they are passing out is faulty.. maybe… instead of saying abstinence information is going to cause more kids to have more unprotected sex.. they should see that their junk science has led to more people having stds, unplanned pregnancies, abortions… and wasting loads of money… when abstinence requires nothing… it is free.

don’t want to get an std? don’t have physical contact.
don’t wanna get pregnant? yeah… don’t have physical contact.

common sense … but they try to make it more complicated…

we have the du-pont stainmaster stuff on the carpets.. so we should be good on spills and such.. but tell that to a toddler.

my brothers family was over for some dinner and watching some showed that we had saved on the tivo for them…

my nephew is 2. and since he is expecting his brother in a few months.. he has been craving attention.. without having to point to his moms belly and saying baby…

well he went into a coughing spell and then had a projectile vomit event (pve)… we were lucky and had bowls out for some treats and was able to catch most of it… but some got on the carpet. we started laughing about it.. and that was the mistake.. he thought it was a game or something we enjoyed

every 15 minutes or so.. he would start coughing and then vomiting. all over everywhere… the carpet.. the wood floors in the kitchen… the carpet stairs…. and the pièce de résistance…. after doing some on the stairs.. we my son had brought over a bowl and had put it down on the floor in the family room… my nephew crawls over… on all fours over the bowl.. and proceeds to vomit again… but missing the bowl completely

i am so glad that i shop at costco.. we had cans of that spotshot stuff for the carpet and some nice wood cleaner

we thought we were done after 2 clothes changes.. a bath… wearing some of my sons old pajamas… and at this point.. the pve count was at 5.

well as he was getting up from his last clothes change.. he pushes a pizza box over into a cup of soda… and you guessed it.. cup spills on the carpet

it was so funny… and kind of scary…. i had forgotten that kids and hold 50% of their body weight in vomit …. yikes.

just glad we paid extra for that carpet protection

there are times when my kids amaze me. make me swell up with pride…

my 8 year old daughter has been writing poems/lyrics in secret… and they are beautiful… faith of a child right?

i will have to have her sing it to me.. or we can work on it together… so we can put it into music.

when i stay
when i go
you’re still there

when i’m here
when i’m there
you’re lovin me

all around
you’re watching me in joy

when i see you i smile
come around and say hello
let the world see you

so simple and so right on to how we need to approach God and understand him. like david in the psalms… there is nowhere that you are not

sometimes… i think we just need to slow down and realize and learn from our kids. i have been working a lot lately.. and barely see them. and when my wife brought the notepad with these words on them… i have been reading them over and over for the past 2 days.

sometimes… we just need to feel like God is around… share a coke and a smile… come around… say hello… let the world see you.

it looks like david beckham is coming to america. cause his friend tom cruise said so. beckham has some grand idea that by coming to america.. he is going to make soccer the true football…. uh yeah.

good luck we have freddie adu already… and soccer is not popular beyond the soccer moms and the 4th grade…. they had that guy from melrose place playing pro soccer for a while (you know… elizabeth shues brother).. and soccer still is not popular… wait.. wasn’t freddie in 4th grade when they signed him?

unlike the rest of the world that has nothing _but_ soccer… we have 5 pro teams + in denver alone. and so many other club level, college level, masters level, rec center pickup level sports that people are into.. i bet you… soccer is not in the top 5 if you asked anyone over the age of say 10

  • football
  • hockey
  • basketball
  • baseball
  • spelling bee (if it is on espn.. it is a sport)
  • swimming
  • chess
  • ultimate frisbee
  • wrestling
  • ufc
  • x-games stuff (roller anything)

and also… if you were going to bring soccer to america… why pair up with tom cruise… should have hooked up with bradgelina … adopted a baby.. and teach it soccer.. then… send them to acting school and make a ‘bend it like daddy’ movie or something…

i think the mls is gonna have to sell all of the current teams to have enough money to sign beckham… wonder what the talking fee is gonna be…

not to take anything away from him.. but his world cup showing was weak. he should have done this years ago..

the other thing is… ronaldo is coming too… he may have more draw than beckham… i would rather watch ronaldinio with his stupid mad jukin skills than beckham…

maybe it is a vast left wing scientologist conspiracy…. make people hate america by enbracing soccer…

today after i had packed up my guitar and about to head out.. i noticed a little girl coming up the stage…. she started to climb the stairs and sat there… watching me singing along to some leeland that was playing as people were leaving.. she wanted so much to come up.. i brought her up and let her walk around a bit.. and she was pointing to a guitar case saying open.. open. this is when i noticed that she may have some physical and developmental challenges..

as that case she she wanted opened was a les paul electric.. i went overn and brought my case over and let her open and lift out my acoustic… and she started trying to strum and pick along.

at this point. ‘tears of the saints’ by leeland came on…

here are many prodigal sons
On our city streets they run
Searching for shelter
There are homes broken down
People’s hopes have fallen to the ground
From failures

This is an emergency!

There are tears from the saints
For the lost and unsaved
We’re crying for them come back home
We’re crying for them come back home
And all your children will stretch out their hands
And pick up the crippled man
Father, we will lead them home
Father, we will lead them home

There are schools full of hatred
Even churches have forsaken
Love and mercy
May we see this generation
In it’s state of desperation
For Your glory

This is an emergency!

Sinner, reach out your hands!
Children in Christ you stand!
Sinner, reach out your hands!
Children in Christ you stand!

And all Your children will stretch out their hands
And pick up the crippled man
Father, we will lead them home
Father, we will lead them home

leeland tears of the saints

it was hard to hold the tears back… here was a little child… singing ‘god is so good’ and ‘jesus loves me’ … if everyone had this sense.. that no matter what the issue or how bad others may see a situtation.. it is that personal attitude that makes the difference.

god is so good… and jesus loes me. that is what she kept saying as she tried to strum and pick at the strings … i think God loved that praise and worship more than the rehersed and polished sets that we try to present every saturday and sunday… no matter how many hours you practice… i still think God loves that spontanious outpouring from a 5 year old girl that loved music.. and through all of her .. lets put it as what others would call problems… still felt that Jesus loved her. that God was so good.

interesting that my verse of the day was psalm 107:1

give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever!
