so installed office 2007 last night.. and it is purdy….like mac osx aqua style on windows…

i did an upgrade and it ran fine

this is what it looks like… a little too much baby blue for me… so i switched it to a black motif

the ‘ribbon’ feature is gonna take a little more getting used to… but the app runs fast and a lot of the common tasks are available without having to drill down deep into sub menus and such…

actually looking forward to incorperating both non-beta versions of vista and office 2007 on my production/day to day machine … instead of a machine that is used just for beta junk…

now to see how it handles the day to day tasks that i have gotten used to doing on the old version.. and seeing how much ‘better’ this is really gonna be.

there is literally hundreds of bookmarking, tagging, favorites, networking links that some people go crazy with… stupid lemmings… just cause one person thinks tha it is important .. does not mean 150,000 of you need to look at the page too… it is the slashdot’d of today.

you can look a huge list of them here

ok… you may have heard of del.icio.us, digg, furl, techorati, and reddit… all out there to help you connect. remember links. see what is popular.. get search engine optimization on steroids if you play it right… i wanna play. i don’t understand the draw to things like this… but i guess people looking for friends… actually enjoy this stuff… and interacting with people.

so..i am going to start doing this for the next few weeks and see what happens…

well.. there is no plugin or module for that orther than del.icio.us on the some themes for the free wordpress.com (one reason i have thought about going wordpress.net and installing it one of my servers) … well.. i combined all of them together.. and it will take some manual work in html.. because the php is locked down… but i think i got it..

i have to post first.. ot have an idea about what i am going to call the page.. but i will just wait. i then take the permalink url and type in a description and output raw html that has all the stuff in it… it is a very simple bash script that i read in the url and title of the article into.. and then output all of the html .. it is ugly.. cause i don’t want newline after each link.. like it does if you put a newline

permalink=$1
the_title=$2

echo ”
\<a href\=\”http\://del.icio.us/post\?url\=$permalink&title\=$the_title\”\>\<img src\=\”/files/2007/01/delicious.png\”\>\</a\> \<a href\=\”http\://furl.net/storeIt.jsp\?t\=$permalink\&u\=$the_title\”\>\<img src\=\”/files/2007/01/furl.gif\”\>\</a\> \<a href\=\”http\://blinklist.com/index.php\?Action\=Blink/addblink.php\&Description\=$the_title\&URL\=$permalink\”\>\<img src\=\”/files/2007/01/blinklist.png\”\>\</a\> \<a href\=\”http\://reddit.com/submit\?url\=$permalink\&title\=$the_title\”\>\<img src\=\”/files/2007/01/reddit.png\”\>\</a\> \<a href\=\”http\://technorati.com/cosmos/search.html\?url\=$permalink\”\>\<img src\=\”/files/2007/01/technorati1.png\”\>\</a\> \<a href\=\”http\://digg.com/submit\?phase\=2\&URL\=$permalink\”\>\<img src\=\”/files/2007/01/digg.gif\”\>\</a\>
” | perl -pe ‘s///g’

not too bad…. and get something like…

tag https://optionalg.wordpress.com/2007/01/26/dont-eat-rocky/ ‘dont eat rocky’

<a href=”http://del.icio.us/post?url=https://optionalg.wordpress.com/2007/01/26/dont-eat-rocky/&title=dont eat rocky”></a> <a href=”http://furl.net/storeIt.jsp?t=https://optionalg.wordpress.com/2007/01/26/dont-eat-rocky/&u=dont eat rocky”></a> <a href=”http://blinklist.com/index.php?Action=Blink/addblink.php&Description=dont eat rocky&URL=https://optionalg.wordpress.com/2007/01/26/dont-eat-rocky/”></a> <a href=”http://reddit.com/submit?url=https://optionalg.wordpress.com/2007/01/26/dont-eat-rocky/&title=dont eat rocky”></a> </a> </a>

this.. then in turn becomes…

i upgraded my wordpress… for css edits.. but that does not give me php level access to hardcode this stuff in… so this is what i have to do i guess…

another thing that you can do is use microsoft word or text editor… and do global search and replace for the url and title as well.. using whatever you want ..

so…. i published this post and got the permalink for it… and now… pasting in the new links

i

apple just released the iphone and me wants …. kind of. have to figure out how email will work in high volumes and if it will support blackberry type push function… but as far as eye candy and feature set… i think it blows away any of the media phones out there currently… read more here

you should have waited

runs osx… touchscreen where you can resize windows by pinching (whoa) i am squeezing your head… 4 or 8 GB ipod … this iphone seems to be even better than my ibook… not really sure i need my phone to run konfabulator widgets…

i am just glad that i am on cingular… but i think i will wait for a full keyboard blackberry pearl… i just don’t like the smartkey layout for fast typing for things that i normally have to type.. but i generally will trend more for a really good emamil platform and good phone.. my blackberry 8700 comes close.. at least i am on cingular.. so i will have the option of shelling out $500/$600 for one of these .. or spending half that for a pearl that allows me to expand memory using media cards… and will be smaller

i saw a book that will be implemented in this house this coming year for the kids… it is a book by jason f. wright called ‘the christmas jar

abstract:

put all your loose change into a jar… like you normally do.. but instead of using one of those coinstar units to change out to bills… keep collecting until christmas of the next year.

at that time.. look at the people in your circle or have knowledge of via friends, family, charity.. and do a tommyknocker on them…

park up the street… put the jar ‘o monies in front of their door, ring the doorbell, and run. don’t impose what you think they need or want.. let them choose.

another alternative would be to use something like travelers cheques (you know the company) and leave said cheque in an envelope or whatever.. and do the same ring-ding-run-along … it will make you feel better…

oh yeah… think about how much ‘coin’ you dropped for christmas lights, decorations, gift wrap, electrical bill.. and maybe go get rolls of coins to cheat a little and do it this year… or those sappy insurance or diabetic supplies commercials that talk about a few cents a day…

i was thinking back to some of the early years when $15 was what we needed… when $50 meant food and gas for the week… when we had to pull money from our sons piggy bank to pay the electrical bill… that $11 saved us that month.

over the span of 1 yr… you could have close to $100 if you think about it… but even if it is not…. think about the impact an anonymous gift like this would/could/will have on some family that is sometimes too ashamed to ask.. or have been praying over their struggles and needing people on the ground to pour Gods love down on them
